Easiest Countries That Offer ESL Jobs Before You Move There
While ESL is quite a lucrative area of education that binds tourism with it, a lot of educators and aspiring ones dream of “travel and teach” at least once. This dream is highly attainable with the right kind of go getter and welcoming attitude, technical knowledge of meshing culture and language teaching and empathy. TEFL online course providers have been minting money since the pandemic.
With the things now seemingly getting on the blended approach, TEFL jobs in 2021 have now opened gates once again to teach English overseas and/or abroad. Things are now looking up for the ones who missed the opportunity to enjoy the whole “travel and teach” USP of such teaching jobs.
Compared to the general notion that people have that a native flair in the language usage and a strong sense of pedagogy would help you to get a job, it is not so easy as it seems. Coming from a lot of experienced teachers, it is often heard that getting an ESL job is easier if you are in the country on a tour and then explore the opportunities to work. This is unaffordable and irrational for many.
Going on a tour of a country and looking for a job requires a lot of cost coverage and uncertainty. This brings us to the brighter part of the blog where now if you continue to read, you would see how you may find your suitable country where you can secure the job from your homeland and then move in there.
A Skype or Zoom call is initiated between the applicant and the employer. Usually, a brief interview, followed by a teaching demo session is required. However, this is again a generic procedure. It may change from one employer to another and other norms existing in that particular country.
Let us look at the different countries continent-wise
Asia: China, Thailand, Hong Kong and Indonesia are your perfect options to start with. With a vibrant culture and a fairly mixed population from various Asian communities, these countries hire you while you are in your homeland. Japan, Singapore and Malaysia are also at par.
However, the standards are kept high and the employment scope is comparatively stiff. Other countries like South Korea and Taiwan are excellent places to start your teaching job experience. They have the perfect mélange of Asian culture and acceptance of the modernist lifestyle as well. In fact, some Asian countries also cover your accommodation and travel.
Europe: The land of the czars and Bolsheviks, Russia keeps hiring English teachers and tutors from all over the globe annually. With a strong history of heritage and politics, Russian employers are very particular about their expectations and their offers. Sister countries, Turkey and Georgia as of the first quarter of 2021 has declared to hire around 50k ESL teachers in the next few years. With scenic physical features and secular culture, these countries are worth working in.
Places like France and Spain provide assistantship programs where for the budding ESL teachers it makes the stay and the experience secure. One can get to learn the regional practices while getting accustomed to the country and whatever the job has to offer. And all these, while you are working under the protection of a senior teacher. The other growing countries for ESL opportunities are Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Romania. They are guaranteed to have always hired teachers in advance.
Middle East: Adjoining places like Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait are rich countries where ex-pat teachers enjoy a lot of facilities. Although the religious restrictions make them look orthodox to the world, they are very eloquent when it comes to employing foreigners and treating them like their lifelong guests. These are attractive locations where in some parts your salary is also counted tax-free!
The majority of the school authorities cover your travel and accommodation. Some schools after a few years also issue round tickets each year for you to visit your family during holidays and return to work. Other countries like Egypt, Morocco and Jordan have recently been soaring with the high number of employment spots for ESL teachers. While schools are in the game, private coaching centers and tutor centers are also coming up with their employment opportunities for ESL teachers from around the world.
Latin America: A stretch on the world map that screams festivities and vibrance, working in any of the countries have always been known to have kept the foreign teacher content and enriched with experience. Countries like Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico have seen a remarkable rise in employment opportunities for ESL teachers.
They are recruiting for language institutes, private and public schools, summer camps, boot camps, etc. Currently, a lot of volunteering option has also opened up where one enjoys a modest pay while home staying with a local family.
Preparing yourself for a one-way ticket to a destination where a job is awaiting is surely an exciting thing. Much has been talked about the options to look at the countries. And now what is required is a careful analysis of one’ s eligibility and comfort when it comes to teaching the target learners in a particular community. Once that is set, the job hunt becomes a rather easier process.
